Gas stations have No Fuel ?!
Gas stations have No Fuel ?!
SNACKING ON THE ROAD
Monday, June 15, 2009
You might think the gas station is a great place to fill up on fuel………maybe for your car, but not for your body.
Recently I was fueling up my car and was feeling a little “nibbly”. I usually pack a few healthy snacks with me when I’m on the road, but this particular day I had forgotten to bring some munchies. So I thought, “hey, maybe the gas station has something to tide me over”. As I scoured the shelves for a few minutes, I realized that there wasn’t one item that I would dare put in my mouth. I suppose I had a momentary lapse of reason thinking that a gas station would have a wholesome snack.
Hopefully, I can spare you the emotional turmoil that afflicted my consciousness that fateful afternoon, with some “on-the-go” ideas.
The key to eating healthy outside of the house is planning ahead!
Cut up vegetables: cucumber, carrots, celery, etc.
Dried apricots. They have a low glycemic-index, so are ideal for controlling blood-sugar.
Make your own trail mix using a variety of unsalted, raw, nuts and seeds, and some raisins or cranberries for sweetness.
Take a fruit along……a bundle of goodness packaged by nature.
Happy fueling!
