If you want to have a successful “business”, fiber is the key to keeping business regular and lucrative. Kellogg’s has capitalized on the importance of fiber and have created cereals that boast “high fiber”. Their cereal Bran Buds have a whopping 11g of fiber for 1/3 of a cup. Yes, all this fiber is good, but unfortunately with the high fiber comes with a cocktail of other not-so-good ingredients.

All Bran Buds Ingredients:
Wheat bran, sugar/glucose-fructose, psyllium seed husk, salt, baking soda, natural colour, vitamins (thiamin hydrochloride, d-calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid), iron, BHT.

In previous blogs I have mentioned that both refined sugar and refined salt are health-degrading substances. Kellogg’s also add colour to make it look appealing, and then a handful of synthetic vitamins and minerals. Their final touch is BHT, a potentially toxic preservative that is prohibited in England (but not in Canada).

WHERE CAN I GET FIBER?

Fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, and whole grains are the best sources of fiber. If these foods are consumed in their “whole” form, there is no need to add fiber to your diet using refined cereals. Other great sources are freshly ground seeds such as flax, sesame, chia (salba), hemp, pumpkin, and sunflower.

Make everyday a slam dunk! Eat your natural sources of fiber and business will be great!

Interesting factoid!
British surgeon Denis Burkitt observed that African and other primitive societies have virtually no colon cancer and other bowel diseases, attributing superb bowel health to their high fiber diets.
